My maiden name was Mavis Boid and I was born and raised at 32, Morthen Road, Wickersley.
My father, George William Boid was verger and sexton of St.Alban's Church for many, many years, and my mother, Mary Elizabeth Boid faithfully helped him clean the church all those years.
I am now living in Buffalo, Oklahoma, U.S.A. I married an American soldier, Kermit George, during World War 11 and our oldest son, Kermit Jr., was born in the hospital at Listerdale. I lost my husband last November and I lost Kermit Jr., this past February so it has been a terrible year for us. Kermit Jr. and his wife, Sue came to England in 1985 and my brother, Alan, who lives in Dinnington, was able to take them up St. Alban's Church tower. At that time Kermit Jr., expressed a desire for his children to see Wickersley and go to the top of the tower, so next year, on his birthday (July 25) his wife, Sue, his daughters, Kim and Candy, and his son, Jason, are coming over to experience the delight of looking at Wickersley and the beautiful surroundings from the top of the church tower.
Would like to send e-mails to anyone in and around Wickersley to find out what is going on in the old village these days. Of course, I am getting up in years - maybe some of the 'older' people might remember me.
I enjoyed finding your Web site - the Internet is so great these days.
Thank you for letting me tell part of my story - Wickersley will always be a jewel in my mind.
Mavis Boid George
