My name is Mike Atfield, in my childhood I used to stay with my grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Barker at 29 Morthen Road. My grandad, Stan used to play the piano at the Working mens club, and my mother Mary used to be a part-time barmaid.
In 1956 my mother started working for Mr. & Mrs. Peck at Old Hall, Morthen Road, this was a live-in job, so I moved in along with my parents. At the time my father was working for Owen & Dysons at Templeborough.
We lived at Old Hall until 1961, when Mr. Peck retired (he owned the large store Joseph Peck's in the centre of Rotherham), he decided to move to South Devon and asked us to move as well.
Mr. Peck and my father Reg are both now dead, my mother lives in Salcombe. I also live in Salcombe and my wife and I run our own boatbuilding business.
