The Poll Tax of 1379

The Poll Tax Returns of 1379, traditionally known as the 'subsidy rolls' listed all householders over the age of 16.

Wickersley, Bramley, Dalton Magna and Ravenfield were all part of the Strafforth & Tickhill Wapentake. A Wapentake is a sub-division of land, usually used in the Yorkshire region that the Viking kings took over. It is a Scandinavian word vapnatak meaning an assembly .

The names of some local gentry families appear frequently, one example is the Bosvilles (Bosseuill).
