Manor of Wickersley

The Manor of Wickersley was held by:
The Wickersley's, the last being, Nicholas Wickersley until he died in 1528

Robert Swyft (son-in-law of the above) who died in 1561

Francis Leake (son-in-law of Robert Swyft) until 1577

Richard Smith or Smythe, fishmonger of London from 1577 (by purchase from Francis Leake)

Some legal wrangling between Richard Smyth and Francis Leake 1575-1588

Sheffield Archives hold details of a final concord dated 3 February 1703, between Thomas Silvester and John Sybury plaintiffs, and Mary Trippett, widow, Burrowes Trippett, Robert Wild, Sara his wife, Elizabeth Lee (daughter of Thomas Shirley?), widow, Gregory Bower and Elizabeth his wife, deforciants, of a messuage, 2 barns, a dovecote, 3 gardens, 2 orchards, 60 acres land, 30 acres meadow, 60 acres pasture and common pasture in Handsworth and Wickersley. Consideration £106. Ref: SY268/Z/1/1

Mary Frances Reeve (d.1833), daughter and heiress of Edward and Frances Elizabeth, she died 1833) who married Captain Henry Kater in 1810

From 1835, Edward Kater (son of the above) - it is unclear if he held the Manor of Wickersley, but Edward held the Manor of Mexborough

At some stage Edward Kater sold the Manor of Mexborough and Wickersley to W. T. Smelter.

Sheffield Archives hold deeds to estates of W. T. Smelter at Richmond and Woodthorpe (Handsworth), Wickersley and Mexborough. ( Parker, Reeve and Kater families). 18th - early 19th centuries. Ref:MD 2380-2436
