Lambcote Grange

Lambcote Grange was originally a grange of the neighbouring Abbey of Roche. As the name suggests, the surrounding land was a sheep farm.

Situated in the parish of Stainton. Its original name was Lambcroft, as it is so written in the Confirmation of Pope Urban III, , from which document we also learn that it was given to the monks by Richard de Busli and Hugh de Drigwrt. In 1563 'Lamcottes', which had formerly been in the tenure of Robert and Agnes Hewet, was let by indenture under the common seal of the late monastery of Roche to John Wilkynson, at 60s. per annum at the terms of St. Martin in the Winter and Pentecost equally. It was at this time granted by the Crown to Charles Jackson.

Robert, grandson of Nicholas Bellamy of Markham, Nottinghamshire was in 1570 seated at Lambcote Grange. Robert had a son, Original, died 20th September, 1619, aged 80.

Robert Cooke was said to be 'of Lambcote Grange', in the Will of John Fretwell of Maltby. (Robert Cooke was probably one of The Cooke's of Wheatley)

From about 1686 Lambcote was owned by Matthew Purslove - The last of the Pursloves died in 1800

In 1791 William Wasteneys was at Lambcote Grange, his wife Mary Mirfin, was heiress under the will of Joseph Purslove, late of Silkstone.

Thomas TOONE m. Mary WASTNEYS 13 Dec 1801, their son William Wastneys Toone was born here on 9 Nov 1807.

Henry Radley was 'of Lambcote Grange' in 1880.

The Fawcett family moved to Lambcote from Doncaster in 1881.

Lambcote Grange Estate, was for sale by auction in 1888
