General Directory of Sheffield, 1849
In the liberty of Tickhill, a pleasant village and parish containing 652 souls and 1230 acres of land . It is celebrated for quarries of fine soft gritstone, of which grindstones are made for the Sheffield grinders. The soil belongs to various owners, but Captain Henry Kater is Lord of the Manior and patron of the Church of St. Alban, which is a rectory, valued in 1831 as £345.
