Varah Family of Maltby and Wickersley

VAYRO (cliii. 156)- This is doubtless a ' varied spelling of the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire name Varah, properly pronounced to rhyme with Sarah. The spelling Varah has been constant in the Hundred of Strafforth and Hallamshire since the seventeenth century as evidenced by Church registers. It is probably the same name as spelt Verrour in a Lincoln will of 1327. Nothing appears to be known of its origin.
