William Thickett's mother was Jane Anne Varah, (This family in

Reverend Chad Varah² was founder of The Samaritans.
Marian and William had two sons, Herbert William (Bill) Thickett (1909-1990) and Geoffrey Sharpley Thickett .

Edward Chad Varah² founder of The Samaritans, was born on November 12, 1911, at Barton upon Humber, North Lincolnshire, the eldest of nine children of W. E. Varah³, an Anglican Church minister. His father named him after St Chad, founder of the parish. He married in 1940 Susan Whanslaw. Edward Chad Varah, CBE, died 8 November 2007.
Rev. W. E. Varah³, was Vicar of Eastville, Boston, Lincolnshire before moving to Barton-on-Humber on February 14 1911. From 1956-1958 he was curate of St Barnabas Parish, Sutton New Town. He was recorded as Canon Varah in 1923.
It is recorded that Dorothy Margaret BROOKS, born 1914, daughter of W.E.Varah & wife Mary, was killed in 1940 in High Holborn, London. She was a driver for the London Auxillary Ambulance Service and married to Leon O. Brooks.
