At Christ Church, Heeley, Sheffield, there is a plaque with inscription:

'BENEATH REPOSE THE MORTAL REMAINS OF A GALLANT OLD SOLDIER WHO FOUGHT IN THE CAMPAIGN IN GERMANY IN 1805 AND WAS SEVERLY WOUNDED AND TAKEN PRISONER, ALONG WITH GENERAL CRAWFORD, AT THE STORMING OF BUENOS AYRES IN 1807. JAMES JARVIS WAS BORN AT WICKERSLEY MAY 18TH 1776, ATTAINED RANK OF SERGEANT IN THE LIGHT COMPANY OF THE 36 REGIMENT OF FOOT; AND DIED IN THIS PARISH ON THE 23RD DAY OF APRIL 1860 FULL OF YEARS, WITH A PROSPECT OF A FINAL RESTING PLACE BEYOND THE CAPRICE OF FORTUNE, OR THE INGRATITUDE OF MAN.'
