Glaisher

 

Jack Glaisher had a shop in Wickersley from the 1920s.

By the 1960s, his grandson John Glaisher modified it as a supermarket.

They were a large family, Josie and her brother, John were the two youngest. They lived at the Haven, which was on Gillott Lane, it was a large house with a tennis court.

They had fetes and parties for local children there.

Josie married at St. Bedes Rotherham and moved with her husband to Abingdon, Oxford in the early 1950s, where he became Assistant Director of the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell.

They moved to America in 1967 with their daughter.
