Jack Glaisher had a shop in Wickersley from the 1920s.
By the 1960s, his grandson John Glaisher modified it as a supermarket.
They were a large family, Josie and her brother, John were the two youngest. They lived at the Haven, which was on Gillott Lane, it was a large house with a tennis court.
They had fetes and parties for local children there.
Josie married at St. Bedes Rotherham and moved with her husband to Abingdon, Oxford in the early 1950s, where he became Assistant Director of the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell. They moved to America in 1967 with their daughter.
Extract from London Gazette: Notice is hereby given that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned Arthur Steel and John Gwyn Stewart Glaisher carrying on businesses at Bawtry Road, Wickersley, near Rotherham in the county of York, as Greengrocers and Newsagents under the styles or firms of "SEA FARM FOODS" and "THE NEWSROOM" respectively has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the 1st day of April 1966 so far as concerns the said John Gwyn Stewart Glaisher who retires from the said firm. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid respectively by the said Arthur Steel who will continue to carry on the said businesses under the same styles or firms Dated this 27th day of October 1966.
