Hellaby Hall

In 1848 a John Clarke was farming at Hellaby Hall

 

John Clark m. 1763 Treeton Jane TAYLOR. (Jane Taylor was most likely of Treeton Mill) Children:

John Clarke died 15th November 1802, aged 76 years. Jane, his wife, died 28th June 1833, aged 85 years.

Samuel Clarke (1766-1842) was christened 14 FEB 1766 at Rotherham. He was converted in early life and in 1812 he founded a Methodist Society consisting of nine members. At this time, Samuel was a tenant of Hellaby Hall, owned by Sir John Eden. The estate included two farms in Maltby. Samuel Clark invited Methodist members to meet at one of the farms. He was Rotherham District Steward on five occasions and a local preacher from 1808.

By 1832 the Maltby Society had grown to 39 members. Samuel was also a trustee of several chapels and supported many Methodist causes and had a particular interest in the distribution of periodicals and other publications.

It is not clear who Samuel married. He had a daughter Charlotte born about 1819 - no evidence of birth or christening, marriage cert only. The Bishop's Transcripts have details of Samuel and Dinah Clarke (Nee
