October 1912
An extension of the Rotherham Corporation tramway system was opened yesterday connecting the borough with three neighbouring villages, Maltby, Wickersley, and Bramley, by a route of four miles six furlongs on which electric trolley omnibuses will be used. This is the fourth system of the kind to be opened in Great Britain, and the first in which the local authority has Parliamentary powers to run outside the municipal boundary. The other systems are in Leeds, Bradford, and Dundee. Each omnibus is fitted with two 20.h.p. motors. The wheels have solid rubber tires, and the vehicle may be steered to any part of the roadway when passing other traffic.
